We'll leave early Friday morning to drive to New Orleans, then compete Friday afternoon and Saturday. We will stay in the hotel Friday and Saturday nights, then drive home Sunday.
Holy Cross is a TOC bid tournament in Public Forum (Finals).
Congratulations to our 2019 graduates - whether you debated early in high school, joined senior year, or grew up together over the last 4 years, the debate family wouldn't have been complete without you!
This weekend, we traveled a little closer to home - the Peach State Classic in Carrollton. The team debated well - AND we had a little help from Gwyn ('18), who judged for us this weekend.
Kiko (OO, IMP) and Aidan (EXT) earned state bids. Mariah and Noor earned their second state bid...and more importantly, earned their second TOC bid! They are now the 4th CHS team to qualify to the Tournament of Champions in Public Forum! #debatelikeagirl
We'll be competing at Grady next weekend before taking a break for Thanksgiving...but we're already thankful for a successful month in debate!
The first weekend of November saw Noor and Mariah take on the Apple Valley tournament in Minnesota. We got some debates at our second bid tournament on the pharmaceuticals topic. We didn't get the bid this weekend...but we did enjoy the fall weather and exploring Minneapolis.
We're a little behind on social media updates, so enjoy this trip down memory lane while we update our last few weeks!
We ended October with a beautiful weekend at the University of Florida. Mariah and Noor reached octos and earned their first bid to the Tournament of Champions! Kiko reached semifinals of OO, earning HIS first TOC bid! Lilli and Chad gained some great experience against strong national circuit programs....and got to enjoy some reunions when Lilli's family and Chad's brother (Jack, CHS '15) met up with us at the tournament!
Mariah/Noor (CA) and Ishika/Cecile (SC) are in Jackson, MS this weekend for the St. Andrew's Episcopal School tournament. We had lunch at Brent's Drugs - a local institution something like Dinglewood Pharmacy back home - where part of the movie "The Help" was filmed!
It was a good weekend at Johns Creek with some of our younger debaters! Xianjie and Ayaan picked up their first wins as a new partnership, while Ramon tried new events in Extemp and Impromptu. Katelynn and Blake got a lot of experience debating diverse styles of LD, from more traditional debates to progressive argumentation. Ramon finished 6th in Extemp, and Katelynn finished 3-2 in LD and missed clearing on speaker points.
Next weekend, a small group is going to Mississippi for our last PF bid tournament on the UNCLOS topic, while the rest of the team researches and prepares cases for November!
After a whirlwind weekend of debate, Mariah and Noor finished 5th at Nova and cleared at their second national in two weeks. We ended our trip with an early morning beach visit. Next up for the team: Johns Creek
Ten hours and a toxic algae bloom, but we made it to the beach. We debate tomorrow at Nova High School!
As is our norm, we're behind on social media updates. We've been recovering from a full weekend at the Holy Cross tournament in New Orleans, where Mariah/Noor finished 3rd and reached their first bid round. Sophie/Pri finished 9th.
We're on the road again this weekend in Davie, FL!
We had a great day at the Vestavia Hills Novice Tournament yesterday! We had 50 students attending, including competitors and student judges. We spoke well, learned a lot, and bonded as a team - and we may have brought home a few wins and lucky horseshoes to motivate us for the rest of the season, too!
Extemp: Xianjie Wu (2nd), Nicki Howard (3rd), Meera Srinivasan (4th), Khidhr Kotaria (5th)
Impromptu: Khidhr Kotaria (4th), Gina Barnett (8th)
Original Oratory: Gina Barnett (5th)
